Fake Payment Notices Without License Plate Numbers Are Scams!
Sign Up for “eTag Parking” – No Overdue Payments, No Scam Worries
June 13, 2025 | Taipei — Recently, fraudulent groups have been impersonating FETC (Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection Co., Ltd.) to send fake overdue payment notices for parking or freeway tolls via SMS or email. Even motorcycle owners have fallen victim. Today (June 13), FETC reminds the public to stay alert with two key anti-fraud principles:
1.If a payment notice does not include your license plate number, treat it as a scam and ignore it.
2.Apply for “eTag Auto Top-Up” and “eTag Parking Auto Deduction” services. These allow both freeway tolls and parking fees to be automatically deducted from a linked credit card. This not only prevents overdue payments but also eliminates the need for payment reminders—giving scammers no chance.
FETC noted that recent scams often claim that “ETC toll or parking fee payments have failed,” luring people into clicking fake payment links or phishing websites in order to steal their credit card details. Public vigilance is strongly advised.
If you receive an SMS or email that lacks your license plate number and contains a payment link, stay alert immediately. It’s recommended to verify any such messages through official FETC channels—such as the ETC App or uTagGO App to check your parking history, calling customer service at (02) 7716-1998, or messaging the official LINE account(ID: @etag).
FETC also encourages the public to activate both “eTag Auto Top-Up” and “eTag Parking Auto Debit” services. With a valid credit card, fees will be deducted automatically, minimizing the risk of overdue payments. That way, any payment reminder received can easily be recognized as a scam and safely deleted for peace of mind.
